A Journey Through ROMs – From Stock to the Best Yet
In this post, i don’t care about the difference between Q5 and Q3E - Once flashed, their the same.
So, let’s start with the ROMs I—and now you—have:
- Stock
- Noah Dominguez’s ROM
- LithiumOS
- Manufactury
- TripleKoo (Mine)
Stock ROM – The Beginning
The stock ROM was a disaster. You couldn’t install apps, which drove everyone mad. Why? No idea. But that’s how the story goes. It did come with Chrome, so there was no kashrus advantage there either.
If you ever mess up or need to restore your device, here’s the stock ROM—download and flash it.
Noah Dominguez’s ROM – The XDA Mystery
Then came Noah Dominguez, bringing us a new ROM. I don’t remember what it was based on, but he built it and even provided a guide on how to install apps. His method involved patching the system.img
using some Chinese tool—something like MoguTool (don’t remember exactly).
The problem? That tool vanished from the internet. Worse, Noah got completely wiped off XDA—his reputation removed, and his post deleted. What did he do wrong? No idea. But I’ve always hated the barbaric XDA staff for how they handle things.
Here’s his ROM—download and flash if you want. But I don’t have the app installation tool.
LithiumOS – The Nightmare ROM
Next, Noah tried again. This time, he gave us LithiumOS—but it was the worst one yet. He claimed apps could be installed with root, but guess what? It never worked because the file manager couldn’t get root permissions.
Even worse, the battery didn’t charge. No recovery meant I ended up bricking a device—no charge, no boot, nothing. The flashing tool couldn’t even get the device into BROM mode. Completely dead.
Here’s the ROM—but don’t flash it. Well, now that you have a recovery, you can try it if you’re curious.
Manufacturary – A Buggy But Usable Android 5 ROM
Then, another developer stepped in and created Manufacturary—an Android 5 ROM. This one was the best so far, but still full of bugs.
It could install apps—finally!
It had many bugs and unnecessary “phone features.”
It came with a ton of bloatware.
One major issue, which still isn’t fully solved even in my ROM: when you install new apps, boot time increases significantly. This is a known problem in Android 5.
Here’s Manufactury—download, flash, and enjoy… BUT WAIT!
TripleKoo – The Ultimate Fix (My ROM)
Then I stepped in.
I fixed ALL of Manufacturary’s bugs—except one, which you 100% won’t care about (so I won’t even mention it).
Boot time is a bit long—around 4 minutes. Not really a bug, just Android 5 behavior when running many apps.
It features heimishe apps, enough to not look treif.
Everything works perfectly, and you can install apps.
I was in the middle of making a fully kosher ROM, but I didn’t have the time—or a reason—to finish it. So technically, it’s kosher, except:
- You can still install apps.
- USB debugging is open.
All essential apps are included. If you install more, expect 7-minute boot times—which kinda makes it kosher by default, no?
Final Thoughts
Here’s the ROM. Enjoy! And don’t forget to say thanks to… ummm… me? Yeah, me.
And Noah Domingues and the manufactory creator…
