Permanently add, remove, or replace sounds (survives factory resets)

Requirements
- Root Explorer App:
- Use any root-enabled file manager (e.g., Solid Explorer, Mixplorer).
- Audio Converter:
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Access System Sound Folders
- Open your root explorer app and grant root access.
- Navigate to:
/product/media/audio
- Folders include
ringtones
,alarms
,notifications
, andui
.
A Smart Move Would Be To NOT delete/replace original files until you back them up.
2. Convert Your Sound File
- Download and install the JTech Audio Converter.
- Open the app, navigate to your audio file (MP3, WAV, etc.), and convert it to .ogg format.
- Save the file to an easy-to-find location (e.g.,
/Downloads
).
3. Add the Custom Sound
- In your root explorer, go to the target folder (e.g.,
/product/media/audio/ringtones
). - Copy/paste your
.ogg
file here. - Set permissions:
- Owner: Read/Write
- Group: Read
- Others: Read
4. Apply Changes
- Reboot your device.
- Check Settings > Sound & Vibration to confirm your sound appears.
Troubleshooting
- Sound not showing?
- Verify file permissions and location.
- Ensure the file is correctly converted to
.ogg
.
Done! Your custom sound will persist even after a factory reset.
Notes:
- To remove a sound, delete the
.ogg
file and reboot. - To replace a sound, overwrite the existing file (back it up first!).
