I have compile a list of the eGate settings and an explanation of each one. I hope to update this for each new version, and I will write below the current version that this list is updated to.
Last Updated: Version 1.20
1. Disable Factory Reset
Prevents the user from performing a factory reset via the device settings. This ensures that the device can’t be reset which removes the eGate app and filter.
2. Disable Adding Users
Restricts the ability to create new users or guest profiles on the device. Note: If a new user is added, the filter will not apply to that user. For this reason, this option is available.
3. Disable Hard Factory Reset via FRP
Blocks factory reset attempts via recovery mode. This feature does not work on flip phones.
Note: If this is enabled and a reset is attempted via recovery, the device may become bricked. Use this feature cautiously.
An alternative to doing this on the Qin F21 Pro is available via this easy guide:
4. Unhide/Hide Apps
Allows administrators to hide or unhide specific apps on the device. Hidden apps are not accessible to the user at all and will not appear on the home screen or app drawer but remain installed.
5. Block/Unblock App Installation
Allows you to select apps that cannot be uninstalled.
6. Add Managed User
Creates another filtered user under administrator control. This user is subject to specific restrictions and filtering as defined by the eGate settings.
7. ADB Disabled
Disables Android Debug Bridge (ADB) functionality and blocks access to developer options. This prevents unauthorized access and modifications to the device.
8. App Install Disabled
Prevents the installation of new apps. APKs cannot be installed, ensuring that only pre-approved applications are available on the device.
9. Disable WiFi Tethering
Disables the ability to use the device as a WiFi hotspot. This prevents the device from sharing its internet connection with other devices.
10. Disable WiFi
Completely disables WiFi functionality, forcing the device to rely on mobile data or remain offline.
11. Allow Adding User from Login Page
Allows users to add a new profile directly from the device login page. This feature is typically used in shared device environments where multiple users need access.
12. Disable Google Play
Removes the Google Play Store app and prevents logging into a Google Play account. This ensures that users cannot download or update apps via Google Play.
13. Set DNS Filter
Enables DNS filtering to block specific content categories, including:
- Ads
- Malware, Gambling, and Adult Content
- Social Media
This is not a 100% solution for browser/internet filtering and is not usually recommended to rely on.
14. Enable Accessibility Filter
Enables accessibility services for eGate, which must be activated in Settings -> Accessibility
. This feature is required for other accessibility-based functions to operate.
15. Use External Accessibility Service
If your device is a Qin F21 Pro, install the additional Qin F21 APK and enable this feature to utilize enhanced accessibility services.
16. Block WebView Controls in All Apps
Prevents apps from utilizing WebView components, which are often used to display in-app web content. This can help block undesired online activities within apps.
This blocks in-app browsers.
17. Add/Remove WebView Exception
Allows specific apps to use WebView despite the global block. Exceptions can be added or removed as needed.
18. Enable/Remove App with Accessibility
Monitors app usage via accessibility services. If a blocked app is opened, the device returns to the home screen. This provides a dynamic method to enforce app restrictions.
19. Attempt to Block Videos
Attempts to block video playback within apps. Note: This feature may not always work, depending on the app’s video implementation.
20. Block Telegram Search**
Attempts to block the search functionality within the Telegram app. Note: This feature may not always work effectively.
21. Block Gboard Stickers/GIFs
Attempts to disable stickers and GIF functionality in Gboard. Note: This feature may not always work consistently.
22. Disable App View in Settings
Removes the ability to view installed apps in the device settings. This prevents users from tampering with app settings or uninstalling managed apps.
23. WhatsApp Restrictions
Restricts specific features in WhatsApp, including:
- Disable AI: Turns off AI features in WhatsApp.
- Disable Communities: Disables the Communities feature.
- Disable Updates: Prevents WhatsApp from updating to newer versions.
24. Debug Accessibility Filter
If WebView is used and this setting is enabled, a notification will display the package name utilizing WebView. This is useful for debugging app restrictions and identifying which WebView package is causing issues.
25. Remove eGate
Removes eGate as the device owner but does not uninstall or disable the eGate app itself. This restores device ownership control without removing the app.
26. Block App Uninstallations
Adding an app to the Block App Uninstallations makes it that the user can not uninstall the app.
I hope this helps you when setting your settings (no pun intended ). Feel free to let me know if any modifications/changes should be made to add/correct information.
