What is eGate software?

I was asked recently to explain exactly what eGate is. eGate is an MDM (mobile device management) software for Android devices. There are many, many MDM solutions available, but eGate stands out from the competition in 2 ways.

  1. No monthly fee. Almost every other MDM product comes with a monthly subscription. eGate, by comparison, uses the perpetual license model, and can be bought here.
  2. Designed for a high degree of flexibility in how to lock undesirable features on Android devices. You can block individual apps, you can block video player controls, and we are working on features to block undesirable parts of apps like communities on WhatsApp. A full list of features is available here:

So i skimmed through the original thread about installing it on flip phones. Seems like this would work for an android device as well should i want to disable every app aside for waze and or google maps. In short, should i want to create a so called waze device i ahould be able to block everything and leave open the select few apps, while not having to pay yearly like the mb smart which charges yearly. Unless this is designed for flip phones specifically?

It is designed for android in general, and you can use it to allow only selected apps. No yearly or monthly fees!

Ok, thats awesome. Ill try it out on the next device i filter as a waze only device.

Any such programs that would work for apple devices?

Also assuming theres a passcode to set it up and allow or deny select applications? And for removal i’d assume i would find it there as well?

Not that I’ve made.

Yes, when you start it for the first time, the setup process includes setting a password.

hey I’m a bit confused how to use this site, but I have your filter on my qin and I cant seem to get Gmail to work properly, I have excluded it from the list of apps that are blocked from WebView, but for some reason any time I try to compose an email, it shuts down. also, when I try just opening some emails, it shuts down

(Just on a side note this message is old so you can skip the part where it says to redownload the latest version)

Turn on the debug accessiblity filter option, restart your phone, and when it closes an app it should display a notification saying which package name triggered it. Then you can make sure you have the package names you need added to the exceptions list.

perfect - thanks and I have the 1.13 version - I installed the APK for 1.14 - but how do I make it that that’s what the phone uses? the app still shows 1.13

It’s a bug in version 1.14, that it still shows 1.13

I updated it and mine shows 1.14

I followed these instructions, but now WebView pretty much works in every app now Uber, Waze etc. how do I fix this?

What exceptions did you add?

my exceptions now are android.gm
system.ui
mediatek.simprocessor
gboard
Android.launcher3
(amazon and amazon seller)

I figured it out I think: I toggled block WebView controls in apps - lol I forgot I toggled that off
